If you’re looking for a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, a two-day trip to Huashuiwan Hot Springs and Xiling Snow Mountain is the ultimate getaway. The first day is all about unwinding in the soothing hot springs of Huashuiwan, while the second day offers thrilling snow activities and breathtaking views at Xiling Snow Mountain. This itinerary ensures you make the most of both relaxation and exploration in the scenic Sichuan region.
Day 1: Huashuiwan Hot Springs Town
Transportation: Start your journey by taking the high-speed train from Chengdu to Dayi (大邑), which takes around 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Dayi Station, exit and take a local bus to the Huashuiwan Hot Springs Town (about an hour’s ride, costing approximately ¥11 per person).
Accommodation & Hot Springs: There are several hotels in the area offering hot spring access. Recommended choices include the Howard Johnson Hot Springs Resort (豪生温泉酒店), China Railway Hotel (中铁酒店), and First Village Hot Springs Hotel (第一村温泉酒店). All these hotels offer rooms with included hot spring access. You can also book any hotel in advance and then purchase the hot spring tickets from the hotel owner or street vendors. It’s a good idea to bring swimwear, changeable undergarments, and body lotion.
Dining: The area has plenty of dining options with diverse offerings, so you’re bound to find something you like. For a local flavor, be sure to try the beef and lamb soup, a popular dish in the region.
Day 2: Xiling Snow Mountain
Transportation: On the second day, take a private car from your Huashuiwan hotel to the Xiling Snow Mountain ticket station, a 30-minute ride costing around ¥25-30 per person.
Xiling Snow Mountain: Xiling Snow Mountain offers two main areas: the mid-mountain and the summit. The mountain is served by two cable cars:
- Entrance → Yuanyang Pool Cable Car → 10-Minute Free Shuttle → Mid-Mountain (Yingxue Square):
Once you arrive at Yingxue Square at mid-mountain, you’ll find various skiing and snow play areas, along with restaurants and eateries. Note that while hot water is available, instant noodles are not sold at the mountain, so make sure to bring your own snacks or instant noodles. - Mid-Mountain → Riyueping Cable Car → Summit (Riyueping):
At the summit, enjoy stunning views of the cloud sea and frost-covered trees, accessible by a scenic walkway. The weather here is often perfect for photography if the sky is clear. You’ll also find many playful squirrels in the forest—bring some peanuts or sunflower seeds to feed them for a fun experience.
Return Trip: After your adventure at the summit, plan your descent carefully. You can take a direct bus from the mountain’s ticket area back to the Chadianzi Bus Station, or take a tourism bus to Dayi’s high-speed rail station (make sure to time it well). It’s recommended to return early and stop for dinner in Dayi before taking the high-speed train back to Chengdu.
