Huanhua Stream Park (浣花溪公园, Huanhuaxi Park), is a true gem of Chengdu, offering an oasis of peace amidst the bustling city life. This semi-open park integrates various natural landscapes with cultural sites, making it an ideal destination for both nature lovers and those interested in Chengdu’s deep cultural roots. The park is dotted with poetic inscriptions, ancient trees, and lush bamboo groves, creating an atmosphere that feels like stepping into a living poem. The park’s beauty is unparalleled, with every corner offering a new sight to behold, from tranquil streams and meandering pathways to historical monuments and cultural pavilions.
In the summer months, the park becomes even more enchanting as the dense vegetation provides a refreshing escape from the city’s heat. Walking through the bamboo forests, you can quickly forget the summer heat as the cool shade of the trees envelops you.
Park Hours and Recommended Time to Visit
Huanhua Stream Park is open every day from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, offering free entry for visitors. A leisurely walk through the park will take around 2-3 hours, not including time spent at nearby attractions such as the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum (杜甫草堂博物馆), which requires a separate ticket purchase (50 RMB). If you plan to explore the park in depth, it is recommended to reserve half a day to fully enjoy both the park and the nearby attractions.
For a more comprehensive day trip, you can visit the Sichuan Provincial Museum (四川省博物馆), Qingyang Palace (青羊宫), and Cultural Park (文化公园) in the afternoon, as these sites are in close proximity
Must-Visit Areas Within the Park
The park is divided into three main areas from north to south: Bai Lu Zhou (白鹭洲), Cang Lang Lake (沧浪湖), and Wan Shu Garden (万树园). While each section offers its own unique charm, we recommend focusing your visit on Bai Lu Zhou and Wan Shu Yuan for the best experience.

- Bai Lu Zhou (白鹭洲): This area is known for its picturesque bamboo groves, thatched cottages, and stones inscribed with famous Chinese poetry. A highlight is the iconic red wall, reminiscent of the Forbidden City, making it a perfect spot for taking photos, especially for those who enjoy wearing traditional Hanfu clothing. It is also the best place to see the white egrets in the park.
- Cang Lang Lake (沧浪湖): This small wetland park offers a peaceful setting where visitors can stroll along the boardwalk and take in the scenic views of the lake. Although the view from different angles is similar, it is recommended to walk around the lake to appreciate its full beauty.
- Wan Shu Garden (万树园): This area is the most densely vegetated section of the park, often referred to as a “natural oxygen bar.” It is the perfect place to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the dense greenery. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire park. Along the way, be sure to visit the Du Fu Thousand Poems Monument (杜甫千诗碑) and take a leisurely walk through the bamboo groves.
