- By Car: Driving is the most recommended option to get to the center. The journey takes about 2 hours from Chengdu. It’s a scenic drive that offers stunning views of the Sichuan countryside and mountains.
- Public Transport: A direct bus service runs between Chengdu and Shenshuping, with only one round trip per day.
- Outbound: Departure at 7:00 AM from Chunxi Road, Mi Rui Shopping Plaza (米瑞购物广场). Arrives around 9:30 AM after a 2.5-hour drive.
- Return: Departure at 6:30 PM from the parking lot of the scenic area. The bus arrives back in Chengdu around 8:00 PM.

Gengda Town (耿达镇): This town is very close to the panda center, and visitors can walk to the base from here. It’s a great spot to stay during the summer as the high elevation provides a cool climate. However, the selection of hotels and guesthouses is limited, and rooms can fill up quickly in the peak season. It’s recommended to book in advance if planning to stay here.
Yingxiu Town (映秀镇): Located 23 kilometers (30 minutes by car) from the panda center, Yingxiu offers more accommodation options, including homestays and restaurants. It’s also a historical town, home to the Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial, which adds an educational aspect to your visit.
Tips for Visiting Wolong Shenshuping Panda Center
Panda Viewing Experience: At Shenshuping, the panda viewing experience is more intimate and relaxed. One of the main attractions here is Fubao, a panda returning from Korea. You can spend about 5 minutes viewing Fubao, but if the panda is sleeping, you will need to wait or come back later. If you are content with watching it rest, the staff will allow you to go closer for a better view.
Food and Facilities: It’s recommended to bring your own food, as the center only offers instant noodles and self-heating meals. There are drink stalls, but options are limited. Near the dining area, you’ll find a souvenir shop selling panda-themed products, including plush toys and other panda merchandise.
Timing Your Visit: If you want to catch the pandas at their most active, arrive early! Pandas tend to be more energetic in the morning, but from noon onwards, they often nap for several hours. If you’re lucky, some may wake up around 3:00 PM and become active again for a short period before resting until closing time.
